JUST IN: Democrat Senator Injured In Serious Car Crash

Sen. Chris Coons was hospitalized Sunday after a multi-vehicle crash in Delaware involving a pickup truck whose driver suffered a suspected medical emergency.

The Delaware Democrat said he was riding in the front passenger seat of a vehicle driven by a staffer when the crash occurred on Savannah Road in Lewes at about 10:20 a.m. on Sunday, June 28.

“Earlier today, a Delaware driver experienced a medical incident and collided with several cars, including one in which I was a passenger,” Coons wrote in a post on X.

Lewes Police Chief Thomas Spell confirmed the senator was a front-seat passenger in the vehicle.

“I was transported to Beebe Hospital and treated for minor injuries,” Coons continued. “I’m now home and expected to make a full and swift recovery.”

The crash sent six people, including Coons, to the hospital with minor injuries, according to local outlet CoastTV.

Spell said the vehicle carrying Coons, along with several others, was “struck by a pickup truck whose driver had a suspected medical issue causing him to lose consciousness.”

“There are no indications of impairment of the truck driver,” the police chief added.

In a separate post on X, Coons thanked the first responders and medical staff who cared for him after the crash.

“I’m deeply grateful to the first responders for their prompt and professional response, including the Lewes Police Department, Lewes and Rehoboth Fire Departments, and Sussex County Emergency Medical Services, as well as the capable doctors and nurses at Beebe Hospital, where I received excellent care,” he wrote.

“I’m feeling relieved and blessed that by all accounts no one was seriously injured during the crash,” Coons added.

Transvestite Delaware politician Rep. Sarah McBride also shared a message of support.

“I am so glad to hear you are okay and that no one was seriously injured,” McBride wrote on X. “Sending you and Annie all my love as you recover.”

Chris Coons has represented Delaware in the Senate since first being elected in 2010, following a decade in county government.
