Angela Simmons confirmed breakup rumors during a sit-down chat on Angie Martinez’s IRL podcast.
Angela, 37, and music mogul Yo Gotti, 44, called it quits earlier this year.
“Are you telling me right now you’re in your single girl era again?” Angie asked the single mom-of-one.
“Not by choice, but you know, I respect him,” Angela told a confused Martinez, who asked who broke up first.
“This man, like, pursued you, so you’re not telling me that he ended it, did he end the relationship?” Martinez asked.
“No, it was my choice, you know, I just, I had to make a decision,” Angela replied without going into details.
Angela said she is entering her “growing season” and “healing season.”
“I’m transforming into the next part of myself,” she added. Angela again confirmed she broke up with Yo Gotti. She hinted that their relationship was too public and she prefers being discreet.
“I wouldn’t have chose it, but it was what was best,” she said. “I could have probably been in and out of like four or five other relationships. People would have never known and gotten my feelings hurt or not or whatever. And I just wouldn’t speak on it because some stuff is just better left unsaid.”
Gotti openly professed his crush on the reality TV star in his track titled “Down in the DM” in 2016. They officially began dating in December 2022.
But Angela said Gotti fell in love with an imaginary image of her – not who she really was.
“Then you get in a relationship with me and you’re like, ‘Oh, I thought you were like this,’” Angela explained to Martinez. “I’m like, ‘Bro, that was five seconds of my life.’ This is who I am.”
