Former President Barack Obama is warning that Americans could face greater health and environmental risks after the administration of President Donald Trump moved to repeal the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2009 endangerment finding.
The endangerment finding, issued by the Environmental Protection Agency, established that greenhouse gases pose a threat to public health and welfare and served as the legal foundation for federal emissions standards on vehicles, power plants, and other major sources.
Obama criticized the repeal in a statement, arguing the move weakens environmental protections and undermines efforts to address climate change.
“We’ll be less safe, less healthy, and less able to fight climate change — all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money,” Obama said.
Supporters of the repeal argue the change reduces regulatory burdens on industry, lowers energy costs, and returns decision-making authority to Congress rather than relying on agency interpretation
