Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika, arrived at a Utah courthouse Monday flanked by security as she prepared to come face to face with the man accused of assassinating her husband.
Dressed in black, Erika Kirk was escorted into the courthouse by two bodyguards just before proceedings began in the pretrial hearing for 23-year-old Tyler Robinson.
The five-day preliminary hearing marks the first time members of Charlie Kirk’s family have been in the courtroom with Robinson since the conservative activist was gunned down on Sept. 10.
As the hearing got underway, prayers and messages of support poured in across social media for Erika Kirk and the rest of Charlie Kirk’s family.
Conservative commentator Bethany S. Mandel urged followers to keep the widow in their prayers, writing: “Stop for a moment and say a prayer for strength and healing for @MrsErikaKirk. She’s a modern day Job. Nobody deserves what she’s been put through.”
Olympic swimmer and women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines also shared her support, posting: “Praying for Erika and the Kirk family today and everyday since 9/10 ❤️”
Erika Kirk also released a statement on behalf of Charlie Kirk’s immediate family, including his parents, Robert and Kathryn, and his sister, Mary.
“Charlie was a beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and father. Every court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably impacted our lives and the lives of his children.”
“We remain deeply grateful for the support, prayers, and kindness we have received. This outpouring has sustained us during the darkest days of our lives.”
“Out of respect for the judicial process, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask for continued privacy as we navigate this process and immense grief.”

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty and will argue that Robinson should stand trial on an aggravated murder charge stemming from the killing.
Robinson is accused of fatally shooting Kirk while he addressed a crowd of thousands during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.
Authorities say Robinson turned himself in after the shooting. Prosecutors also allege he sent a text message confessing to the killing to his partner.
He has not entered a plea, and his attorneys have not publicly commented on his guilt or innocence.
Charlie Kirk’s parents, Robert and Kathryn, joined his widow in Provo for the hearing, marking the first time the family has attended court proceedings in the case.
The hearing is expected to focus on whether prosecutors have presented enough evidence for Robinson to stand trial over Kirk’s assassination.
Kirk’s father, Robert, mother, Kathryn, and widow, Erika, will be at the hearing as a “unified support system,” a source familiar with the situation told The Salt Lake Tribune.
The family, however, may leave the courtroom before the prosecution presents “graphic” or “sensitive” evidence, the Tribune’s source added.
