Washington, D.C. — President Donald J. Trump today announced his intent to nominate Kara Westercamp to serve as a judge on the United States Court of International Trade, placing a key pro-tariff legal thinker on a court central to the administration’s trade policy agenda.
In a statement released from the White House, the president lauded Westercamp as a jurist with deep understanding of international trade law and a commitment to enforcing U.S. trade remedies in defense of American workers and industries.
“Kara knows the wisdom and courage required to protect the American people, who have been ripped off by other countries for far too long,” the president said. “She will always put America First. Congratulations, Kara!”
The Court of International Trade, based in New York, has nationwide jurisdiction over disputes involving U.S. customs and international trade laws. Its rulings can have a major impact on tariffs, antidumping measures, and other trade-related policies.
