Hollywood superstar Chris Pratt shared a glowing review of Angel Studio’s “Young Washington” — which chronicles the early years of America’s first president — in a recent Instagram post, which was uploaded after the film debuted on Friday as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
“Okay. Get off your ass and run to the movie theater and go see Young Washington. I just got out of the screening of this movie,” Pratt, who is widely known for roles in Marvel’s “The Avengers” series, “Jurassic World” and a number of additional blockbusters, told his followers.
Pratt went on to praise the studio for the film’s production value and performances from the cast, particularly that of William Franklyn-Miller, who made his feature film debut in the leading role. “The acting is incredible. Whoever plays Young Washington, I don’t know his name, but I’m gonna tell you this right now: mark my words, very soon everybody in the world will know his name. He’s a massive star,” he continued.
Pratt went on to compare the film to Alejandro González Iñárritu’s frontier masterpiece “The Revenant,” which starred Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio. “It’s so good. It’s so good. It’s like ‘The Revenant,’ it’s like P’ride and Prejudice,’ it’s like ‘Braveheart.’ All combined. Acting is incredible.”
In the accompanying caption on the post, Pratt wrote: “I was actually blown away. The movie is incredible. Like Braveheart for Americans. Jon Erwin crushed it. William Franklin Miller did a great job as young Washington. Remember the name! A star is born! The movie is awesome! Way to go!!”
Celebrate America’s 250th birthday at the box office!!! There’s a lot of great choices this weekend. But considering it’s July 4 weekend I humbly suggest “Young, Washington.” I was actually blown away. The movie is incredible. Like Braveheart for Americans. Jon Erwin crushed it.… pic.twitter.com/dl1a3Uy39o

“Young Washington,” directed by Jon Erwin, centers on the early life of George Washington before he became the first U.S. president. The story follows a young Washington, played by William Franklyn-Miller, as he navigates military service, alliances, and conflicts during the French and Indian War in the 1750s. Key events include his assignment to deliver a message to French forces in the Ohio Country, interactions with Native American leaders, the Battle of Jumonville Glen, and the defense of Fort Necessity.
“Before he was the Father of a Nation, he was a soldier fighting to survive. A single misstep thrusts young George Washington into the center of a global conflict, testing his honor, loyalty, and courage. As alliances crumble and the frontier erupts into war, he must confront not only his enemies but the man he’s becoming,” the film’s official synopsis states.
The star-studded supporting cast includes Mary-Louise Parker, Ben Kingsley, Andy Serkis, Kelsey Grammer and Joel Smallbone. It received a limited premiere at the Tribeca Festival in June 2026 before its wide theatrical release on July 3.
“Young Washington” is Angel Studios’ most expensive film to date. The production represents the studio’s largest-scale theatrical release to that point, featuring extensive period sets, battle sequences, and a notable ensemble cast compared to prior Angel Studios offerings.
The film had a positive box office debut on its opening Friday, when it grossed an estimated $7.6 million domestically from roughly 2,700 locations, including previews.
