Federal authorities announced that the FBI has successfully disrupted an Islamic terror plot targeting New Year’s Eve celebrations in Texas, charging a man who allegedly attempted to provide bomb-making materials to an undercover agent posing as an ISIS operative.
According to court documents, the suspect was arrested after law enforcement intercepted efforts to transfer explosive components to the undercover agent. The suspect now faces federal charges related to attempting to supply explosive materials with the intent that they be used in violent extremist acts.
Officials with the FBI and Department of Justice praised the coordination between local, state, and federal agencies that led to the arrest, calling the disruption a reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorism and the importance of vigilance.
