Border enforcement official Tom Homan said in a television interview that authorities have now located approximately 145,000 migrant children who were previously unaccounted for in federal tracking systems.
Speaking on Fox News, Homan stated that the figure comes out of roughly 300,000 minors who, according to critics of prior immigration policies, were not properly monitored after being released to sponsors during the administration of former President Joe Biden.
Homan said federal agencies are continuing efforts to identify the whereabouts of the remaining children and ensure their safety, describing the issue as a top enforcement and humanitarian priority.
Officials from previous administrations and immigration experts have noted that the term “missing” often refers to cases where follow-up contact was not completed rather than confirmed disappearances, with many children believed to be living with relatives or sponsors.
The situation remains a major flashpoint in the broader debate over border enforcement, child welfare, and federal oversight of migrant placement programs, with lawmakers from both parties calling for improved tracking and transparency.
