Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed concern this week after claiming that people have been driving past his home and shouting insults, including the word “retard.” Walz said the incidents have left him worried about potential escalation and criticized Republicans for not speaking out against the behavior.
Speaking to reporters, Walz said:
“Look, I’m worried. We know how these things go. They start with taunts, they turn to violence.”
He added that “we know” what typically follows this kind of harassment and argued that political leaders should condemn such conduct regardless of party.
Republican lawmakers have not yet issued a formal response to Walz’s remarks. The governor’s comments come amid heightened political tensions in the state and nationwide. Authorities have not reported any related criminal incidents or investigations at this time.
