An Ohio man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he attempted to shoot officers inside a Walmart during a shoplifting incident, but his handgun malfunctioned.
According to authorities, officers responded to a report of shoplifting at a Walmart store. When police confronted the suspect, he allegedly produced a handgun and pulled the trigger while aiming at officers. Investigators say the weapon did not fire because it appeared to have jammed.
Officers were able to take the suspect into custody without being shot. No officers or civilians were injured during the encounter.
The suspect has been charged with attempted murder and felonious assault on a police officer, along with additional weapons-related offenses. Law enforcement officials said the case remains under investigation.
Police praised the responding officers for their actions and emphasized how quickly the situation could have turned deadly if the firearm had discharged.
