President Donald Trump sharply criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar during recent remarks, calling into question her rhetoric about the United States and contrasting it with the ongoing instability in her country of origin, Somalia.
“I don’t want to see Somalia,” President Trump said. “I don’t want to see a woman that marries her brother to get in, becomes a congressman, and does nothing but complain.”
Trump continued by arguing that Omar, a frequent critic of U.S. foreign and domestic policy, should focus her attention on conditions abroad rather than attacking the country that granted her citizenship and elected her to Congress.
“And yet her country’s a mess,” Trump said. “Let her go back and fix up her own country.”
