Former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey are reportedly under criminal investigation by the FBI for alleged misconduct related to the 2016 Trump-Russia investigation, according to Fox News Digital, citing anonymous Justice Department sources.
The probes center on whether both officials made false statements to Congress during the inquiry and may have been involved in a broader conspiracy .
Sources say the investigation into Brennan began after CIA Director John Ratcliffe referred evidence to FBI Director Kash Patel, while a separate inquiry into Comey was also launched. Though the full scope of either probe remains unclear, Fox News reports that the FBI views their actions as potentially criminal in nature .
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed support for the investigations, saying on Fox News that both Brennan and Comey “turned against our Constitution and our country” and deserved scrutiny for allegedly lying under oath during the Russia probe.
Neither the FBI, CIA, nor DOJ have confirmed the investigations, and no public comment has been offered by Brennan or Comey.
These inquiries continue a series of legal and political battles over the legitimacy and oversight of the Trump-Russia investigation, which included a previous review by Special Counsel John Durham that identified procedural shortcomings but no criminal conspiracy.
This development represents a significant escalation in the longstanding feud between the Trump administration and officials involved in the foundational Russia probe—an inquiry whose legacy continues to steer political and legal discourse nearly a decade later.
