President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that Coca-Cola has agreed to replace high-fructose corn syrup with real cane sugar in its U.S. cola products, calling it a “very good move” for American consumers.
“I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, his social media platform. “It’s just better!”
The announcement follows mounting public health concerns about the long-term use of high-fructose corn syrup — the current sweetener in most Coca-Cola beverages sold in the United States. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been one of the more vocal critics, previously urging the beverage giant to shift toward more natural ingredients.
In many countries, including Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Australia, Coca-Cola is already sweetened with real cane sugar, a formula many consumers say tastes cleaner and is perceived as healthier.
“I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola,” Trump continued in his post. “This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see.”

While Coca-Cola has not officially confirmed the change, the company issued a brief statement in response to the President’s remarks.
“We appreciate President Trump’s continued enthusiasm for Coca-Cola,” a company spokesperson said, according to media reports. “We look forward to sharing more about our upcoming product innovations soon.”
The shift, if finalized, would mark a significant change for one of America’s most iconic brands — and could potentially reignite the “cane sugar vs. corn syrup” debate among soda enthusiasts.
Industry experts say the switch could also signal broader consumer-driven changes in the U.S. food and beverage landscape, as demand for less-processed ingredients continues to grow.
Still, questions remain about how soon — and to what extent — the transition will be implemented nationwide.
For now, Trump’s supporters are hailing the move as another win for American-made quality.
“Coca-Cola with real sugar again? That’s how you make Coke great again,” one Truth Social user posted.
