NEW: Trump Halts Planned Attack On Iran As Negotiations Progress

President Donald Trump announced late Saturday evening that he had canceled a planned military attack on Iran after stating that the parameters of a deal had been agreed upon.

“The U.S.A. is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II. Despite this, we have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to. This would include the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat,” the president announced in a social media post.

“Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL. The Country of Israel joins me in this commitment. Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE.”

The planned attack referred to reports from U.S. officials that the United States and Israel had been preparing a new round of strikes, potentially targeting Iranian energy infrastructure. Trump had hinted at such a move throughout the week following a cabinet meeting at Camp David where Trump indicated the possibility of further military action. U.S. media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal and CBS News, cited sources stating that strikes could have begun as early as the weekend if diplomatic progress did not materialize.

According to Trump’s statement, the emerging framework centers on the immediate, complete, and total opening of the Strait of Hormuz, though specifics on the framework have not yet been released. He indicated that the cancellation of the attack is conditional on rapidly finalizing a deal and emphasized that Israel would be participating in any upcoming action.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with Trump on Saturday and expressed concerns about escalation, the Wall Street Journal reported. Other regional actors, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Pakistan, have been involved in efforts to encourage de-escalation and a return to negotiations.

Iranian officials have not publicly confirmed the details of any new framework as described by Trump, and no formal signing has occurred as of this report. Negotiators from the United States, including figures previously involved in talks such as special envoy Steve Witkoff and others, along with regional mediators, are expected to continue discussions.
