President Trump Applauds Colbert’s Show Cancelation, Slams Kimmel and Fallon as “Talentless”

President Donald J. Trump is celebrating CBS’s decision to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, using the moment to mock two other liberal late-night hosts — Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon — and to promote conservative alternative Greg Gutfeld.

In a Truth Social post, President Trump said:

“I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”

CBS announced that The Late Show will end in May 2026, citing cost-cutting measures and declining ad revenue. But the timing has sparked speculation. Just days before the announcement, Colbert had mocked CBS parent company Paramount for settling a lawsuit involving President Trump.

Despite Colbert’s show averaging 2.4 million viewers and consistently ranking #1 among late-night programs, the network is scrapping it — a move many say reflects growing pressure from conservative investors and shifting political winds in the entertainment industry.

President Trump — now in his third term at the center of political and media battles — called Colbert’s cancellation “long overdue” and said late-night TV needs “a reset.”

“These shows have been nothing but Trump-bashing propaganda machines for years. Time to flush the trash,” he wrote.

Trump also hailed Fox News host Greg Gutfeld, calling him “the new king of late night.” Gutfeld’s show, Gutfeld!, has overtaken Colbert and Kimmel in the ratings among key demographics — a feat that Trump says proves Americans are “done with smug liberal comedy.”

Meanwhile, Democrats are accusing CBS of caving to political pressure. Rep. Adam Schiff called the cancellation “deeply troubling” and demanded a congressional inquiry, saying:

“Free speech and media independence are being eroded under this administration.”

Still, the decision appears final. Colbert has not issued a formal statement but responded with a jab during his latest monologue: “Guess I got canceled by the same guy who couldn’t cancel Obamacare.”
