On the heels of his triumphant return with the release of Star Line, Grammy-winning independent innovator Chance the Rapper has unveiled the official video for “Just a Drop,” his soulful collaboration with Jay Electronica.
The Chance-directed visual was filmed in the outskirts of Los Angeles, combining futuristic imagery with stark desert landscapes. The video mirrors the track’s themes, immersing viewers in a striking world that underscores the song’s potent commentary.
“Just a Drop” explores systemic inequities surrounding essential resources, with water and land serving as metaphors for deprivation. The gospel-infused chorus and sharp lyricism highlight resilience, community, and hope, continuing Chance’s tradition of blending spiritual and social narratives.
Star Line, released earlier this month, is already being hailed as a career-defining project. The 17-track album debuted at number two on Spotify’s Top Albums Debut USA Chart and number three globally. Featuring collaborators such as Lil Wayne, Joey BadA$$, Vic Mensa, and Jazmine Sullivan, the project blends visionary lyricism, cultural reverence, and experimentation into a Black diasporic narrative.
The visual identity of Star Line was crafted by artist Brandon Breaux, who previously designed Chance’s iconic covers for 10 Day, Acid Rap, and Coloring Book. Together, the music and visuals mark a bold new era for Chance the Rapper.
