A man is facing charges after a deadly ATV crash in Powell County.
According to Kentucky State Police, the crash happened Monday afternoon around 2:30 on Hardwick’s Creek Road.
Investigators say Shawn Cornett was driving an ATV with Ashley Plowman as his passenger when he lost control. The ATV overturned several times, throwing Plowman from the vehicle. She died at the scene.
An arrest citation states Cornett was taken to the hospital for treatment, but left against medical advice before doctors could perform a blood draw. Troopers later tracked him to his home in Irvine, where Cornett admitted to using heroin and meth after leaving the hospital. He told police he was not under the influence at the time of the crash.
Cornett was arrested and charged with reckless homicide, no operator’s license, and all-terrain vehicle violations. He is being held at the Powell County Jail.
This is a developing story.
