Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer exploded on the Senate floor Thursday after President Trump accused Democratic lawmakers of demanding a military and intelligence “rebellion” — a claim that Schumer says threatens political violence.
Schumer warned that Trump’s rhetoric is dangerously escalating: “He is calling for the execution of elected officials,” Schumer said, calling it “an outright threat” and expressing his concern that Trump’s supporters could act on it.
According to Schumer, when a president uses language like “seditious behavior” and “punishable by death,” it doesn’t just provoke anger — it “lights a match in a country soaked with political gasoline.”
The clash stems from a viral video in which six Democratic lawmakers — all with military or intelligence backgrounds — urged troops to refuse illegal orders. Trump responded on Truth Social, labeling their actions “seditious” and calling for their arrest.
Schumer pushed back hard, emphasizing the grave risk posed by election rhetoric bordering on incitement. “Every time Donald Trump posts things like this, he makes political violence more likely,” he said.
