Washington, D.C. — In a high‑stakes interview this week on Fox News, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard alleged that the Barack Obama administration attempted to overthrow the U.S. government just weeks before Obama left office — after Donald Trump had already been elected.
Gabbard, citing declassified documents released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), claimed the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) was “manufactured and politicized” under Obama’s direction. She said the effort laid the groundwork for a “years‑long coup” against a duly elected president.
She told Fox News:
“Over 100 documents … detail and provide evidence of how this treasonous conspiracy was directed by President Obama just weeks before he was due to leave office after President Trump had already gotten elected.” Fox News+1
The documents claim intelligence findings were manipulated to falsely portray Russia as helping Trump win, despite earlier assessments that Russia lacked the intent or capability to do so.
Gabbard said senior national security officials under Obama “manufactured findings from shoddy sources,” suppressed contradictory evidence, and used the media to promote the narrative.
She announced a formal criminal referral to the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) for investigation of Obama and several former intelligence leaders.
