A nonprofit organization with documented ties to the Chinese Communist Party is now being linked to the pro-Maduro, anti-Trump protest that took place in New York City, raising fresh concerns about foreign influence operations inside the United States.
According to a House Committee report released in 2025, the activist group The People’s Forum has received more than $20 million from Neville Singham, a U.S.-born businessman who resides in Shanghai and has well-established ties to CCP-aligned networks. Lawmakers say the funding was routed through shell companies and donor-advised funds to obscure its origin.
The People’s Forum has openly acknowledged receiving funding connected to Singham. Congressional investigators concluded that the organization has repeatedly acted as a domestic platform for anti-American, pro-CCP messaging, while organizing or promoting demonstrations that target U.S. immigration enforcement, American foreign policy, and President Donald Trump.
The same House report states that the group has:
- Incited disruptive protests and riots across the U.S., including demonstrations against ICE
- Supported and promoted campus occupations that shut down universities
- Hosted political courses and events praising the Chinese Communist Revolution and partnering with pro-PRC organizations
As investigations continue, Republicans are calling for greater transparency around nonprofit funding, tougher enforcement of foreign-agent laws, and accountability for organizations accused of serving as conduits for hostile foreign propaganda.
