U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in Minneapolis have arrested Mahad Abdulkadir Yusuf, a Somali national who authorities say is unlawfully present in the United States and has a prior conviction for criminal sexual conduct.
According to ICE, Yusuf’s conviction involved a serious sexual offense. Due to the nature of the crime, officials emphasized that the arrest was carried out as part of the agency’s focus on identifying and removing non-citizens who pose a threat to public safety.
ICE stated that individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes are prioritized for enforcement actions. Yusuf is currently in ICE custody and is expected to go through immigration proceedings, where a judge will determine next steps under U.S. immigration law.
Authorities have not released additional details about the case, citing privacy and legal considerations.
