President Donald Trump said he has issued standing instructions for a forceful U.S. response if Iran were ever to attempt to assassinate him, warning such an act would trigger overwhelming consequences.
Speaking about potential threats from Iran, Trump said, “That would be a terrible thing for them to do, not because of me. If they did that, they would be obliterated. That would be the end. I’ve left instructions.”
He added that in such a scenario, “There wouldn’t be anything left,” emphasizing that the United States would respond decisively to any attack on its leadership.
U.S. officials have previously warned about threats from Iranian-linked actors following heightened tensions between the two countries in recent years. Tehran has repeatedly denied pursuing assassination plots against American leaders, while criticizing U.S. sanctions and military actions in the region.
