‘Mamdani Curse’: NY Mets Lose 10th Straight Game Following Socialist Mayor’s Visit

Some New York Mets fans are worried that Mayor Zohran Mamdani may be the cause of a dreaded baseball curse after the team lost their 10th straight game on Saturday evening.

With the 4-2 road loss to the Chicago Cubs, the Mets lost yet another series and dropped to an overall record of 7-14. The brutal loss is especially stinging given the club’s high payroll and high-profile offseason acquisitions, as many pundits had projected the Mets as World Series contenders.

All told, the Mets have not won a game since April 7, when they edged out the Arizona Diamondbacks in extra innings. After a 7-2 loss to the D’Backs on April 8, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani visited Citi Field ahead of the rubber match the following day in order to celebrate his 100th day in office.

Footage of the meeting captured a beaming Mamdani hugging the team’s iconic mascot, Mr. Met, before he met with stadium workers off-camera. He framed the visit as a gesture of appreciation for the people “behind every New York Mets game” and kept it largely behind the scenes.

Although the losing streak technically began prior to Mamdani’s visit, a number of fans are now blaming the team’s struggles on the “Mamdani curse.”

“The Mets have not won a single game since Zohran Mamdani visited Citified & cursed the team. The Mets have now lost 5 straight games & were swept by the A’s for the 1st time in team history. What do the Mets need to do to lift the Mamdani curse?” wrote one fan at the halfway point of the current skid.

“It’s a good time to remember that since socialist mayorista mamdani was caught hugging Mr. and Mrs. Met, the New York Metropolitans have lost 10 games in a row,” said another. “Many are calling it the Mamdani curse.”

While the “Mamdani Mets” may sound like a viral meme steeped in traditional baseball superstition, politics has long been rumored to have played a role in some of the team’s offseason restructuring. Mets superstar Francisco Lindor’s wife, Reguero is a staunch supporter of the mayor and was even named to his transition team late last year.

Prior to the start of the current season, veteran sports radio host Mike Francesca claimed that the exit of longtime Mets slugger Brandon Nimmo — who is currently off to a career best start with the Texas Rangers —  was due to a politically-motived dispute with Lindor .

“The Nimmo-Lindor thing, my understanding, was political, had to do with Trump. One side liked Trump, one side didn’t like Trump,” he said.

Lindor has denied the rumors behind Nimmo’s exit, as well as those surrounding other key departures of longtime Mets staples. “Nimmo and I are brothers. I love him. He’s a great guy. He’s missed around here. Good teammate, good person, good family man,” he told baseball insider Jon Heyman earlier this month.
