Dylan Carter, a country singer who earned national attention on The Voice, has died after a car crash in South Carolina. He was 24.
Carter, a Colleton County native with roots in Moncks Corner, was involved in a wreck in Colleton County, according to WCBD News 2. Authorities have not publicly released details about the circumstances of the crash or the cause of death.
News of Carter’s death hit his hometown hard, with Moncks Corner Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. calling him a familiar face at local events and a friend to the community.
“Our family is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Dylan Carter in a car accident. As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at town events.
“His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt. To the loved ones and acquaintances of Dylan, we offer our sincerest condolences during this difficult period.

“The Town of Moncks Corner, its Council, and entire staff extend their deepest sympathies. He was much more to our family than an entertainer he was our friend and we are deeply saddened.”
Carter was also deeply tied to local charity work. The Local Voice, a nonprofit that supports women battling breast cancer, said Carter helped build the organization and often performed at its fundraisers.
“With heavy hearts we share the passing of Dylan Carter, co-founder of The Local Voice, talented musician, and someone who meant so much to our community.
“Dylan was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day. Through his music, his kindness, and his smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen.
“A proud Lowcountry native, Dylan also owned Sunny Days RV & Campground and worked as a realtor, always helping others find a place to belong.”
Carter’s family endured a major loss before his rise on television. His mother died in 2022, and Carter later tied that grief to one of the biggest moments of his career.

The Local Voice added: “We are heartbroken, but find comfort knowing he is in heaven with his mother. We are so grateful for Dylan, for the love he gave this community, and for the impact he leaves behind. We will carry his light forward and continue this mission in his honor.
“Please keep his family in your prayers in the coming weeks as they navigate this tremendous loss.”
Carter was only 20 when he auditioned for The Voice in 2023, delivering a blind audition that turned all four judges’ chairs, including Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, John Legend and Gwen Stefani. He performed Whitney Houston’s I Look to You, later explaining it was a tribute to his late mother, and said he had tried to sing it at her funeral but could not finish.
McEntire, visibly emotional in the moment, told him: “So much emotion, and I saw it and I felt it when you were singing.
“That’s the kind of songs that do that to me too, because I saw you get so emotionally involved, and that’s when you know you’ve got a great song and a great singer: when it touches your heart.
“To me, as a performer, that’s when you really hone in on why you’re part on this Earth, when you touch people’s hearts, and you did.”
Carter chose McEntire as his coach, saying at the time: “Something told me to go with Reba. She could be a comforting mom figure for me.”
His run ended in the Battle Rounds, but Carter kept performing across the Lowcountry and remained active in local causes, including benefit shows for The Local Voice.
