BREAKING: U.S. Military Launches Strikes On Iranian Ports

Fox News’ Jennifer Griffin is reporting that the U.S. launched a fresh round of strikes against Iranian ports and infrastructure targets on Thursday afternoon.

“US military just carried out strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Port and Bandar Abbas,” Griffin posted on X, citing a senior U.S. defense official who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “But this is NOT a restarting of the war,” the official added.

Iranian state media outlets, including Fars News Agency and Tasnim News Agency, reported on multiple explosions in southern Iran, specifically targeting areas around the port city of Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island in Hormozgan province near the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iranian media, the Bahman Pier — a commercial and passenger facility on the eastern side of Qeshm Island — sustained damage during an exchange of fire between Iranian armed forces and an unidentified enemy. Locals reported hearing missile launches and impacts in the vicinity.

Some Iranian sources, including those affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps via Tasnim, attributed the strikes to the United Arab Emirates. These reports cited unidentified sources claiming UAE involvement and warned of potential retaliation, stating that if confirmed, “the UAE will pay the price of its hostile action.”

Iranian media also referenced gunfire and an exchange of fire during the events at the pier and surrounding port areas. No immediate details on casualties or the full extent of damage were provided in these accounts.

The latest strikes come just days after the U.S. launched strikes targeting Iranian speed boats in the Strait of Hormuz, which have largely been used to keep the strait closed. The strikes marked the first hostilities between the two sides since a ceasefire agreement was reached in early April.

Iran responded by launching attacks on oil infrastructure in the UAE, after which the nation vowed to “strike back,” according to reports from Israeli media.

“The strike on one of Iran’s oil ports comes two days after Iran fired 15 ballistic and cruise missiles at UAE Fujairah Port, eliciting anger from Gulf countries after top Pentagon leaders said Tuesday that the Iranian strikes did not rise to the level of breaking the ceasefire, calling it low level attacks that didn’t rise to that level,” Griffin noted in a follow-up post.

“President Trump abruptly called off Project Freedom to open the Strait of Hormuz and guide ships through the strait after announcing the start of the military operation on Sunday,” Griffin added.

The Fox News correspondent further reported that the governments of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait had “abruptly” halted U.S. usage of their bases for Project Freedom, though that decision has since been reversed. “Saudi officials reportedly were angry at the Pentagon downplaying the Iranian strikes on Monday,” Griffin added.

This is a developing story. Additional details will be provided as they become available.
