Former New York Mets star Noah Syndergaard is blasting both his former team and New York City’s political leadership, arguing the chaos surrounding the franchise reflects broader problems in the city itself.
Appearing on OutKick’s “Tomi Lahren Is Fearless,” the former All-Star pitcher ripped socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani while discussing the Mets’ disappointing season and ongoing dysfunction.
“It’s kind of also ironic,” Syndergaard said. “Those two guys are some of the biggest conservatives I’ve played for as well as with, with Jacob deGrom. The craziness that’s going on in New York.”
Syndergaard was referring to Mets stars Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo while reflecting on the current state of the organization.
The hard-throwing right-hander, nicknamed “Thor” during his Mets run, debuted with the club in 2015 and helped lead New York to a National League pennant and World Series appearance that same season.
Despite his criticism of city leadership, Syndergaard admitted there’s still something special about playing baseball in New York.
“But I mean, if I still played for the Mets or the Yankees, I’d be like, oh, this is freaking awesome,” he continued. “Like I could block the crazy part out and still focus on, I get to play a kid’s game in one of the greatest cities in the world.”
“Albeit, ran by a lunatic or, I don’t know. He’s 34 years old … like I’m 33 and I can’t imagine being a mayor.”
Syndergaard then took another swipe at Mamdani, questioning the mayor’s experience level.
“Well, he’s like 34 years old and never really held an actual job beforehand,” he said.
After leaving the Mets, Syndergaard pitched for the Los Angeles Angels, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Guardians.
The former ace has become increasingly outspoken politically in recent months. Earlier this month, Syndergaard praised President Donald Trump after attending a White House event celebrating the return of the Presidential Fitness Test.
“I really just don’t quite understand the negativity or the pessimism he gets from the media and some of the population of this nation because he’s just such a patriotic guy,” Syndergaard said during a separate Fox News appearance.
During the OutKick interview, Syndergaard also unloaded on the Mets organization itself, saying the team’s massive payroll has failed to translate into meaningful success.
“Stop hanging out with socialist mayors, I guess, probably,” he said.
“I hate saying it, but at the end of the day, the Mets are going to Met. I think I’m allowed to kind of say that because I bled orange and blue for eight years. Made it to the World Series with them.”
“Just kind of disappointed to see A) who they’re inviting into their clubhouse and B) the lack of success they’re having. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. We have a huge payroll, and it’s not creating great dividends for them.”
