Current Republican Gov. Kay Ivey is term-limited, leaving the governor’s mansion open for the first time in years. Tuberville’s entrance into the race quickly cleared much of the Republican field, as several high-profile GOP figures declined to run after internal polling showed the senator with commanding support among Republican voters. Polling throughout the race consistently showed Tuberville with support well above 60%.
Tuberville’s campaign also benefited from his strong fundraising operation and statewide name recognition.
