Sen. Bernie Sanders spent $607,814 on private jets, chauffeured limousines, and upscale hotels during his “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, according to Federal Election Commission records.
The self-proclaimed champion of the working class dropped $562,117 on 11 private jet trips, $16,633 on limousine and chauffeur services, and $29,064 on four-star hotel stays over a 15-month period.
His campaign funneled more than $352,000 to a single private jet company alone while Sanders barnstormed the country attacking billionaires and wealth inequality at 32 rallies.
“You run a campaign, and you do three or four or five rallies a week,” Sanders previously defended. “It is the only way you can get around to talk to 30,000 people. You think I’m gonna be sitting on a waiting line at United … while 30,000 people are waiting?”
Campaign records show heavy use of luxury vendors including Ventura Jets and boutique chauffeur services while staff stayed at places like the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel and Westdrift Manhattan Beach.
This comes as Sanders continues to lecture Americans about income inequality and the evils of concentrated wealth.
The socialist senator’s anti-elite tour, largely funded by small-dollar donors, relied on elite travel perks that represent roughly five percent of his campaign’s spending during the period.
Once again, the rules for Bernie and his fellow travelers are different from the rules they demand for everyone else.
