NEW: Multiple Americans Injured Following Iranian Drone Strike On Kuwait

Multiple Americans were injured after Iran launched a Fateh-110 ballistic missile toward Kuwait over the weekend, according to a statement from the Pentagon.

Kuwaiti air defense systems intercepted the missile, but debris from the interception struck Ali Al Salem Air Base, a facility that hosts U.S. military personnel and assets. According to a report from ABC News, approximately five Americans sustained minor injuries.

Those affected included a mix of active-duty U.S. service members and contractors. No fatalities were reported as a result of the incident.

The debris also caused damage to U.S. military equipment at the base. One MQ-9 Reaper drone was destroyed, and another was severely damaged. The combined value of the affected drones has been estimated at around $30 million.

Kuwaiti authorities activated air defenses in response to incoming missile and drone threats. Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the actions as a dangerous escalation and a violation of Kuwaiti sovereignty.

U.S. Central Command described the event as an egregious ceasefire violation. The statement noted that the missile launch followed Iranian drone activity threatening the Strait of Hormuz area, with U.S. forces intercepting those drones. Officials characterized the Iranian action as retaliation for prior U.S. defensive measures near Bandar Abbas.

The incident occurred amid a fragile ceasefire that took effect in April.

As of Sunday, May 31, U.S. and Iranian negotiators reached a tentative agreement to extend the existing ceasefire by 60 days. The proposed memorandum of understanding would also facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, address naval mines, and initiate discussions on Iran’s nuclear program and related sanctions.

The arrangement remains subject to final approval by President Donald Trump and Iranian leadership. Trump held meetings with national security advisers on May 30 to review the proposal, and indicated agreement would need to include specific conditions such as unrestricted commercial shipping through the strait without interference, removal of mines, as well as steps addressing Iran’s uranium enrichment activities.
