President Donald Trump tore into Iran on Friday after state media outlets published purported details of a potential agreement to end the war, accusing the regime of leaking terms that have “NOTHING to do” with what was actually agreed to.
Trump blasted Tehran in a fiery Truth Social post, saying Iranian officials had circulated a false version of the deal and once again demonstrated that they could not be trusted to negotiate in good faith.
“The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing. What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Very dishonorable people to deal with. With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith. AMAZING! Also, their totally rebuffed Drone attack last night against Indian Ships leaving the Hormuz Strait is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. They better get their act together, and FAST!” he added.
The sharp warning came after Iranian state media earlier Friday published what it claimed were details of a proposed memorandum of understanding with the United States, according to Reuters.
Citing the official IRNA news agency, the reports said Tehran would not agree to surrender control of the Strait of Hormuz under the draft framework.
Instead, IRNA said the future administration of the strategic waterway would be determined through consultations and joint decision-making involving Iran and neighboring Oman, which sits near the narrow shipping corridor.
The state news agency also reported that discussions over the future of Iran’s nuclear program would begin after the agreement is signed and continue during a 60-day period, Reuters reported.
Trump’s comments signaled that major disagreements remain despite reports suggesting the two sides are nearing a breakthrough.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most vital energy chokepoints, carrying a substantial portion of global oil shipments. Any agreement involving Iran and the strategic waterway would have far-reaching implications for international energy markets and stability in the Middle East.
Friday’s back-and-forth underscored the deep mistrust that continues to define relations between Washington and Tehran as negotiations over ending the conflict remain underway.
