JUST IN: U.S. B-52 Goes Down, Causes Massive Explosion

A U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff Monday at Edwards Air Force Base in California, officials said.

The massive bomber went down on the Edwards airfield around 11:20 a.m. in Kern County, according to a statement from the base.

“A United States Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff on the Edwards airfield at 11:20 a.m,” Edwards Air Force Base wrote on X. “Emergency crews immediately responded to the scene and the situation is ongoing. More information will be provided as it becomes available.”

Photos from the scene showed smoke rising near the wreckage after the crash.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured.

The B-52 Stratofortress is one of the Air Force’s most iconic long-range bombers and has been a key part of America’s military arsenal for decades.

Emergency crews were still responding as officials worked to determine what caused the aircraft to go down shortly after takeoff.

A spokesperson for Edwards Air Force Base and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
