American’s Overwhelmingly Approve Of Trump’s Iran Peace Agreement, Top Pollster Finds

A new national presidential approval survey from Quantus Insights found that Americans overwhelmingly approve of the Trump-brokered memorandum of understanding (MOU) peace agreement with Iran, which was brokered earlier this month after weeks of intense negotiations.

On the Iran agreement, respondents were asked: “The U.S. and Iran recently announced a preliminary agreement to stop hostilities, reopen shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and begin 60 days of talks on Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions. Do you approve or disapprove of this agreement?”

Results showed 56 percent approval overall, including 43 percent who strongly approved and 13 percent who somewhat approved. Just 13 percent disapproved of respondents expressed disapproval (5 percent somewhat, 8 percent strongly), while an additional 16 percent neither approved nor disapproved.

The remaining 15 percent said they remained unsure.

A follow-up question asked: “As part of any deal, the U.S. may push Iran to give up, remove, or destroy its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. Do you approve or disapprove of the U.S. making this a condition of the agreement?” Here, 74 percent approved (63 percent strongly, 11 percent somewhat), while seven percent disapproved (four percent somewhat, three percent strongly). 12 percent neither approved nor disapproved, and 7 percent were unsure.

The preliminary agreement outlined in the poll calls for an end to hostilities between the United States and Iran, the reopening of shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz, and the launch of 60 days of negotiations covering Iran’s nuclear program and related sanctions. Tense negotiations to advance and finalize terms are currently underway in Switzerland as of this report.

Separate from the Iran-specific questions, the survey measured overall presidential approval. A total of 37 percent of respondents expressed strong approval of the president’s job performance, with 37 percent indicating strong approval and six percent somewhat approving.

56 percent of respondents expressed disapproval, with 54 percent of that number selecting strong disapproval.

Respondents were also asked about their preferences for the upcoming midterm elections. Those results were very close, with 47 percent of respondents selecting a generic Democrat candidate and 43 percent doing the same for a generic Republican.

An additional seven percent indicated that they remain undecided, while two percent expressed preferences for another party.
