A worker at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (ADM) died after being struck by an aircraft on Monday evening, the airport confirmed the following morning.
Emergency measures were deployed around 7:30 p.m. local time following what the airport authority described as an “unfortunate accident involving an aircraft and an employee of the airport community.” The worker, employed by Samsic, a company providing ground services at the airport, was transported to hospital in critical condition and later died of injuries.
Montreal police indicated that preliminary information suggested the aircraft may have been backing up when it struck the worker. The incident occurred on the tarmac during operations involving a French bee Airbus A350-900 preparing for departure.
The aircraft, registration F-HREY, was assigned to flight BF5761 bound for Paris Orly Airport. The flight had been scheduled to leave around 6 p.m. but was delayed for several hours due to a reported technical issue.
French bee stated in a press release that the accident involved “the aircraft and a pushback vehicle intervening in the framework of ground operations.” The airline added that passengers and crew members on board were safe and were being cared for by French bee and airport staff. They added that the carrier is currently working with investigators to determine a cause.
UPDATE: Montréal-Trudeau International Airport’s authority has confirmed Tuesday morning that the ground marshaller who was struck by the French bee A350-900 was rushed to hospital but sadly succumbed to the injuries.

“The loss of a member of our airport community affects us all deeply. During this difficult time, our thoughts are with the employee’s family, loved ones and colleagues, to whom we extend our heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences,” said Yves Beauchamp, the president and chief executive officer of Montreal-Trudeau International Airport.
ADM reported that it quickly implemented assistance and support measures for employees and passengers who witnessed the incident. The authority is cooperating with the investigation and has declined further comment on the circumstances. Airport operations continued, with passengers advised to check flight status directly with their airlines.
