Newly obtained surveillance video shows former Rep. Eric Swalwell surrounded by FBI agents at San Francisco International Airport before federal authorities seized his cellphone and laptop as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
The footage, obtained by the California Post, captures the Aug. 15 encounter after Swalwell arrived in California.
Swalwell, wearing a hat, black sweatshirt and sneakers, is seen speaking with multiple federal agents near his gate as travelers move through the terminal around him.
The former Democratic congressman appears calm and cooperative throughout the encounter.
Video later shows Swalwell walking through the airport with a backpack and rolling suitcase while being escorted by agents.
He is taken up an escalator and eventually brought into a hallway marked as a restricted area before entering a room with several people inside.
Federal agents served Swalwell with a search warrant at approximately 8:25 p.m., according to records tied to the warrant.
Authorities seized a white Apple iPhone, a charging cable, a wall adapter and an Apple MacBook Pro.
The FBI left Swalwell with a copy of the warrant and an inventory of the property taken.
The video does not show agents arresting him, and Swalwell was reportedly allowed to leave after the search was completed.
The encounter was only one part of the federal investigation.
Agents executed additional warrants the following day at Swalwell’s Washington, D.C., home and seized other potential evidence, according to a source previously cited by the New York Post.

The warrant used at the airport reportedly cited a federal civil-rights statute that can be used to prosecute public officials accused of abusing government authority.
That has raised questions about whether investigators are examining allegations that Swalwell may have used his official position in connection with women who accused him of sexual misconduct.
Swalwell has denied wrongdoing.
One former staffer has accused Swalwell of raping her when she was too intoxicated to consent, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Another woman has accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting her in 2018, while two others have alleged that he sent them unsolicited explicit images.
Those accusations remain allegations and have not resulted in a criminal conviction.
The scandal ended Swalwell’s campaign for California governor and preceded his resignation from Congress on April 14 as he faced a possible House Ethics Committee investigation involving alleged misconduct and sexual assault by an employee under his supervision.
Before leaving the race, Eric Swalwell‘s attorney sent a letter to individuals accusing him of “nonconsensual sexual encounters,” warning that the then-congressman could pursue defamation claims over allegations spreading online.
The Department of Justice opened an investigation into Swalwell in April as the accusations mounted.
He is also reportedly the subject of a state ethics investigation.
Swalwell represented California in Congress for seven terms and previously worked in local government and as a prosecutor. He also briefly ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.
The newly released airport footage now gives the public its first look at the dramatic moment federal agents confronted the longtime Democratic lawmaker and walked away with his electronic devices.
Swalwell and his representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
