BREAKING: Plane Crashes Outside Miami International Airport

A Boeing 767 cargo aircraft operated for Amazon Prime Air overran a runway during landing at Miami International Airport on Sunday. A large cloud of smoke could be seen after the aircraft came to a rest after crossing a perimeter road and NW 67th Avenue.

The aircraft, which had departed San Juan, Puerto Rico, landed on Runway 30. Video obtained by local stations showed the plane departing the end of the runway, crossing the roadway, and stopping in a field or adjacent area.

Smoke rose from the wreckage, and flames were visible along the fuselage in some footage. The aircraft’s appeared largely intact at the scene.

A ground stop was issued at the airport immediately following the incident. All departures were halted as of approximately 2:30 p.m. Sunday as first responders closed access to the area near NW 34th Street and NW 67th Avenue. Emergency crews were on scene.

Injuries have been reported, according to a report from local outlet WSVN, though official tallies and details on the number of people affected or their conditions were not immediately released by authorities. The flight carried cargo rather than passengers. No word on the status of the flight crew was available in initial reports.

The cause of the runway overrun has not been determined. Details on weather, aircraft performance, or other contributing factors remain limited in the immediate aftermath of the event.

The Federal Aviation Administration listed the airport status as “disabled aircraft on the runway,” with an indicated end time of 4:30 p.m. EDT. Weather at the time included thunderstorms, a temperature of 86 degrees Fahrenheit, and south winds at 19.6 knots.
