New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson has revealed that he is battling a mysterious medical condition involving unexplained neurological symptoms, raising concerns about the young NFL star’s health and future on the field.
Henderson, 24, broke his silence Friday in a statement posted to social media, revealing that he recently suffered “an unexpected and unusual medical emergency involving a series of unexplained neurological symptoms” that have affected his physical abilities.
The former Ohio State standout said doctors have conducted medical examinations, but the exact cause of his condition remains a mystery.
Despite the uncertainty, Henderson offered an encouraging update about his test results, which he said have “come back positive and reassuring.”
However, he acknowledged that “the cause of this remains unknown and unexplainable.”
The announcement comes after Henderson unexpectedly disappeared from New England’s lineup, missing Sunday’s victory over the Miami Dolphins.
Following the Patriots’ Oct. 22 loss to the Chicago Bears, Henderson participated in two practices before appearing on the team’s injury report Oct. 29 with an illness designation.
He has not practiced since.

Now, Henderson’s statement has provided the first detailed explanation of the medical situation that has kept him away from football.
“I will continue working closely with specialists and physical therapists to focus on my recovery, as these symptoms have affected my strength, coordination, and some of my physical functions,” Henderson wrote.
“I am committed to doing everything necessary to return to full health. My health and long-term well-being remain my foremost priorities.”
The revelation is particularly concerning for a professional athlete whose position requires exceptional strength, coordination and physical conditioning.
Neither Henderson nor the Patriots have disclosed additional medical details, and no specific diagnosis has been publicly announced.
There is also no established timetable for his return to the field.
Henderson expressed appreciation for the support he has received from those closest to him, including his family, teammates and medical professionals.
“My wife and I are deeply grateful for family and loved ones, the New England Patriots organization, my agent, my medical team, teammates, and everyone who has offered prayers, encouragement and support,” he said.
The unexpected medical setback comes during Henderson’s second NFL season, following an impressive rookie campaign that quickly established him as an important piece of New England’s offense.
The Patriots selected Henderson in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft after a standout college career at Ohio State.
He immediately made an impact, appearing in every regular-season game during his rookie year.
Henderson finished the 2025 season with 911 rushing yards on 180 carries, averaging 5.1 yards per attempt while scoring nine rushing touchdowns.
He also contributed 35 receptions for 221 yards and another touchdown, demonstrating his versatility as both a runner and receiver.
Through six games this season, Henderson has recorded 203 rushing yards on 52 carries, averaging 3.9 yards per attempt.
He has also registered one rushing touchdown and five receptions for 45 yards.
His absence leaves New England without a young offensive weapon as the team continues its regular-season schedule.
But Henderson’s announcement made clear that football has taken a back seat to his recovery.
While his medical tests have reportedly yielded reassuring results, the neurological symptoms affecting his strength and coordination have not yet been explained.
For now, Henderson remains focused on working with specialists and physical therapists as doctors continue evaluating his condition.
The Patriots have not announced when their second-year running back might return, leaving his immediate football future uncertain as he prioritizes his health.
