A Midtown Manhattan office tower near Grand Central Terminal was evacuated Tuesday morning after officials warned the building could be at risk of collapsing.
The New York Fire Department responded around 8 a.m. to reports of falling bricks from a building in the 200 block of East 42nd Street, according to The New York Times.
The high-rise previously housed offices for pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, the Times reported.

The city’s socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, urged those in the area to follow the instructions of first responders.
“Now luckily there have been no injuries to report at this time, all workers are accounted for, the building has been evacuated, a number of tall buildings in the area are also being evacuated at this time, a school with about 400 children has also been evacuated,” he said.
