BREAKING: Trump Formally Announces Completion Of Iran Peace Deal

President Donald Trump announced Sunday evening that a peace deal between the United States and Iran had been reached after weeks of intense negotiations. According to the president, the deal will allow for the immediate re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, while the U.S. will be lifting its counter-blockade on Iranian oil exports that had been in place since April.

Details of the agreement, which has been described as a memorandum of understanding (MOU), include the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on relevant fronts, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, and provisions addressing Iran’s nuclear program in subsequent phases.

According to several reports in recent days, the framework calls for a 60-day ceasefire period, gradual economic measures such as unfreezing portions of Iranian assets and lifting some restrictions on oil exports, while allowing for complex negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program to take place. Trump emphasized that no immediate monetary transfers would occur, which he contrasted with the Obama Administration’s 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran has committed to not pursuing nuclear weapons through purchase, development, or other means, with arrangements for the removal or destruction of enriched uranium material to be handled later, according to President Trump.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that both sides had agreed on the final text, with an official signing ceremony planned for June 19 in Switzerland. Mediators indicated that pre-implementation discussions would occur in the coming days.

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade,” Trump formally announced in a Truth Social post.

“Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow,” he added.

The announcement coincided with renewed tensions involving Israel’s conflict with the Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon.

Earlier in the day, Israeli forces conducted strikes on Hezbollah targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs in response to projectiles launched toward northern Israel. Trump publicly addressed the action, stating that the attack should not have occurred, particularly given the timing near the expected deal signing. He called for all sides to stand down, noting the potential for the agreement to contribute to peace in Lebanon as well.

Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported that Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a heated phone conversation over the strikes, with Trump telling Ravid that Netanyahu has “no fu**ing judgement.” The president emphasized that he was very angry with the strikes and saw the actions as a hinderance to a deal.

Israel has maintained that the strikes were launched in response to Hezbollah rocket fire targeting civilians in northern Israel.

Netanyahu’s office has maintained that Israel is not a direct party to the U.S.-Iran deal but supports objectives preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Israel has continued operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon independently and has expressed reservations about aspects of the emerging agreement, such as its scope regarding proxies and nuclear commitments.
