A juror in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial has revealed a disturbing scene from inside the deliberation room, claiming the lone holdout used an exercise band and water bottle to reenact how Clancy’s three young children were strangled.
Nick Dargie, 25, told ABC News the demonstration unfolded as jurors remained sharply divided over whether Clancy was criminally responsible for the January 2023 deaths of her children, Cora, Dawson and Callan.
Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial Friday after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict. The panel was reportedly split 11-1.
Dargie said the holdout juror stunned the room when he grabbed evidence and attempted to demonstrate the killings.
“He took the exercise band out of the bag, grabbed an empty water bottle and tied the band around the water bottle and pulled it,” Dargie said. “I was just so shocked that he did that.”
Dargie said the move left him baffled because jurors were supposed to evaluate the evidence presented in court, not conduct their own experiments.
“I was shocked, it didn‘t make any sense to me. Like, we‘re not in here to play detective or it‘s not a game of Clue. like, this is serious. I asked him why,” he added.

Clancy, 36, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder after her three children were found strangled inside the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home.
She pleaded not guilty, with her defense arguing that postpartum psychosis left her unable to appreciate the wrongfulness of her actions.
Dargie said the holdout repeatedly failed to point to specific evidence or testimony supporting his position during deliberations.
“There was several times I would ask him to show us evidence or, you know, describe a witness testimony that helped to prove what he was saying, and … he couldn’t,” Dargie said. “There wasn’t a single piece of evidence or witness testimony that he used to prove why he was thinking the way he was, which is why we ultimately sent in that note.”
The note, sent by the jury foreperson, told the court that one juror was allegedly refusing to follow the judge’s instructions concerning reasonable doubt.
The explosive accounts from inside the jury room have now become central to Lindsay Clancy‘s defense strategy following the mistrial.
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington said Wednesday that he plans to file a new motion seeking dismissal of the charges on double jeopardy grounds.
“I would defend that person’s right to be a holdout for a month,” Reddington said. “That’s what the system is based on, but when the forelady indicated clearly and unequivocally in the jury question that this person had doubt, reasonable doubt as we know now, and just refused to listen to the judge’s instruction on the law, that’s when I was upset.”
Several jurors have spoken publicly since the mistrial, offering competing accounts of the tense deliberations and the lone juror who refused to join the majority.
Plymouth County District Attorney Timmothy Cruz has not yet announced whether prosecutors will retry Clancy.
Sullivan scheduled a status hearing for Sept. 29, setting up the next major courtroom showdown in a case that has already produced one mistrial and increasingly dramatic revelations from the jury room.
