President Trump went after the official January 6th narrative in a fiery exchange with NBC’s Kristen Welker on Meet the Press.”They had FBI agents ushering them into the building,” Trump said. “They had FBI go into the building, those people walking around there looking, oh isn’t this nice?”When Welker immediately pushed back claiming there was “no evidence of that,” Trump fired back hard.”You got a buncha dirty cops and frankly what they did was weaponization of our government,” Trump said.He repeatedly told her to review the actual footage.”Try looking at tapes one time. Look at the tapes one time.”On the hundreds of guilty pleas from January 6th defendants, Trump explained why many took deals.”You know why they pled guilty? Because they told them they were going into jail for 15 years if they didn’t. They pleaded guilty because they were frightened. They went down, they were ushered in a building. Many of ’em were arrested without even going.”Trump argued those people deserve compensation for what was done to them.”The people we destroyed by dirty cops and weaponization. Many of those should be compensated.”He backed the creation of an anti-weaponization fund to review cases individually with fair, smart people picked on a case-by-case basis.Trump didn’t hold back on the media or the previous administration either.”People like you, the fake dirty press, the crooked press… What they did to lives of people. They destroyed people. They sent people to jail who didn’t do nothing wrong.”Welker kept repeating there was “no evidence” throughout the back-and-forth. Trump kept pointing her to the tapes.
