Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson found out the hard way that mocking a pro-America crowd in Florida is not exactly a winning stage move.
Robinson, 59, was booed during the band’s Sunday night show in Tampa after he took issue with fans chanting USA during the group’s Southern Hospitality Tour, according to TMZ.
The moment reportedly started when an image of the band’s black crow mascot dressed as Uncle Sam appeared on a screen behind the stage. The crowd responded with a patriotic chant, but Robinson apparently was not amused.
The band was reportedly preparing to play its hit She Talks to Angels when Robinson pushed back on the audience.
“Thanks for the geography lesson,” Robinson reportedly said as the chant continued.
Then he went further.
“I don’t know what you have to be so proud of right now,” he said, according to the outlet.
That did not land well.
The comment sparked boos from the crowd, and some concertgoers were so angry they reportedly began heading for the exits.
In video obtained by TMZ, Robinson could be heard firing back at the audience instead of cooling things down.
“Some of us have real faith,” Robinson said to a crowd that appeared to be thinning out.
“For those of you f–king booing us, some of us are not afraid. And we most assuredly are not f–king ignorant.”
The exchange quickly lit up social media, where fans accused the longtime rocker of insulting the country and the people who paid to see him perform.

“US Veteran here. Bought tickets for my wife’s birthday in Tampa. Chris Robinson mocked the USA chanters… We walked out disappointed. Hoping for a partial refund,” one fan wrote on X.
Another longtime fan said the Tampa show ended decades of loyalty to the band.
“So I’m at the black crowes concert in Tampa tonight… Chris Robinson basically just told Patriots to kiss his ass! Not kidding. This was my 12th Crowes concert since 87, I just dropped them like a hot iron. F–k you Chris!”
A third person said Robinson mishandled what should have been a harmless moment from the crowd.
“Never had any issue with the Black Crowes, but good lord, Chris Robinson handled this in the worst way possible. It’s one thing if the fans are combative or disrupting your set, it’s another when fans are innocuously chanting USA,” the user wrote.
Robinson, who was born in Atlanta, started the Black Crowes with his brother, guitarist Rich Robinson, in 1984.
The band exploded in the early 1990s with Shake Your Money Maker in 1990 and The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion in 1992, becoming one of the biggest rock acts of the era with a bluesy Southern sound that drew a loyal following.
The group broke up in 2015 before reuniting in 2019. The Black Crowes are currently touring behind their 10th studio album, A Pound of Feathers.
The Tampa dust-up comes despite Robinson previously trying to distance himself from politics.
In a March interview with Mojo while promoting the album, Robinson described himself as “not interested in politics.”
But on Sunday night, fans say politics seemed to crash right into the setlist.
For many in the crowd, a USA chant at a rock concert was not a controversy. It was a flash of patriotism. Robinson’s response turned it into the story of the night.
And in Florida, where love of country is not exactly something people tend to apologize for, the crowd made its own response loud and clear.
