President Trump detailed the Obama administration’s secret cash shipment to Iran during a sit-down interview with Kristen Welker on Meet the Press.“Obama flew a Boeing 757, a plane I know very well, they took the seats out and they loaded it up with $1.7 billion in cash from the banks in Maryland and Virginia and D.C. and gave them 1.7 in green and gave them tens of billions and it didn’t work,” Trump said.Welker pressed him on the Iran nuclear deal he scrapped in his first term.“You promised you were going to negotiate a better deal,” Welker said.Trump shot back: “I have.”When asked if he wished he had secured that better deal before ripping up the original agreement, Trump made clear the timing mattered.“No. This is much better. If I had done it in my first term, Israel would not have been ready,” Trump replied.Trump framed the cash payment and the original deal as a complete failure that only emboldened Iran, while his approach delivered a stronger position once Israel was prepared to stand firm.
