Iran’s latest attempts to strike American forces have failed to hit their targets, while the U.S. military has responded by destroying a growing number of Iranian oil tankers tied to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
U.S. Central Command said Wednesday that Iranian claims of successful attacks against two American Navy destroyers were false.
“This is completely FALSE,” CENTCOM said in a post on X responding to the Iranian claim.
“No U.S. Navy warship has been struck; all IRGC attempted attacks failed,” CENTCOM said.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that it attacked 10 vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, including two American ships and eight oil tankers, as fighting in the region continues to escalate.
CENTCOM rejected the claim and said American warships remained unharmed.
The failed attacks came as U.S. forces stepped up strikes against Iranian oil tankers linked to the IRGC.

CENTCOM said Tuesday that American forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers after the IRGC twice attempted to hit a U.S. Navy warship with ballistic missiles over a two-day period.
The targeted American ship successfully evaded the attacks and continued operating in regional waters, according to the military. No American personnel were injured.
The tankers destroyed Tuesday were identified as the M/T Kaviz, M/T Charminar, M/T Horizon 1, M/T Riesco and M/T Derya.
American forces ordered the crews to abandon the vessels before striking and disabling them.
CENTCOM said the tankers were part of a multibillion-dollar oil network used to finance the IRGC and its regional proxies.
“Iran cannot defend them,” CENTCOM said.
The strikes followed another U.S. operation Saturday in which American forces destroyed three additional Iranian crude oil tankers after the IRGC attempted to attack a U.S. aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer.

CENTCOM said all of those attempted attacks also failed.
Iran widened its response Wednesday by firing ballistic missiles toward Jordan, where U.S. forces are stationed.
“Iran’s response was ineffective in face of integrated air and missile defenses. Iran fired missiles toward Jordan. American forces have 100% accountability at all locations in Jordan,” a U.S. official told Fox News.
Jordanian officials said the country’s air defenses intercepted most of the incoming ballistic missiles, while the remaining projectiles fell in unpopulated areas. No casualties were reported.
The IRGC claimed it had targeted a base used by American forces near Al Azraq and caused heavy damage, but that assertion conflicted with statements from U.S. and Jordanian officials.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Tuesday that continued Iranian attacks on American naval forces would trigger further U.S. strikes against Tehran’s oil infrastructure.
“Iran continues to try to hit U.S. naval ships, and for every time they do that or try to do that, they’re going to lose tankers,” Rubio told reporters during a visit to Colombia.
The exchange underscores the increasingly direct military confrontation between Washington and Tehran, with Iran attempting to strike American warships while the United States targets tankers it says help finance the IRGC.
So far, CENTCOM says the attempted Iranian strikes on U.S. Navy vessels have failed, while American forces have continued disabling tankers connected to Tehran’s oil network.
