JUST IN: Todd Blanche Makes Stunning Announcement As Trump DOJ Officials Step Down

Attorney General Todd Blanche announced another major departure from President Donald Trump’s Justice Department on Friday, confirming that the official overseeing some of America’s most sensitive national security investigations is stepping down.

John Eisenberg, the assistant attorney general leading the Justice Department’s National Security Division, is leaving his position, becoming the third senior DOJ official to resign since Republicans suffered major losses in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

The announcement came just minutes after news broke that another prominent Trump-appointed prosecutor was departing, marking a significant leadership shakeup at the nation’s top law enforcement agency.

Blanche confirmed Eisenberg’s resignation in a statement posted to social media, praising his work protecting Americans from national security threats.

“He has served with distinction, strengthening our nation’s ability to address threats, both foreign and domestic,” Blanche said.

“Under his leadership, the Division advanced President Trump’s mission to make America safe by prosecuting terrorists and working with our law enforcement partners to disrupt planned attacks on the American people.”

Eisenberg’s departure is particularly significant because the National Security Division oversees investigations involving terrorism, espionage, foreign intelligence threats and other matters affecting America’s national security.

His resignation also ends his second stint serving in a senior position under Donald Trump.

During the president’s first administration, Eisenberg served as an assistant and deputy counsel to the president and as legal adviser to the National Security Council.

That experience placed him at the center of sensitive legal and national security matters involving the White House.

His return to government during Trump’s second term put him in charge of a Justice Department division responsible for confronting foreign threats and coordinating with federal law enforcement agencies.

But Eisenberg was not the only senior official whose departure was announced Friday.

Less than an hour earlier, Blanche confirmed that Jason Reding Quiñones, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida, had also resigned.

Quiñones oversaw one of the country’s most prominent federal prosecutorial districts, handling cases involving drug trafficking, violent crime, human trafficking and international criminal organizations.

His office also pursued a major case against former Cuban leader Raúl Castro over the 1996 destruction of two civilian aircraft operated by Brothers to the Rescue.

The humanitarian organization conducted missions searching for Cuban migrants attempting to cross the Florida Straits.

Four Americans were killed when Cuban military aircraft shot down two of the group’s planes.

Quiñones’ office secured an indictment against Castro and other individuals over their alleged involvement in the attack.

Todd Blanche praised the departing prosecutor for his contributions to law enforcement.

“We are grateful for Jason’s leadership in combatting violent crime, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, and transnational crime,” Blanche said.

“Jason has served the Department multiple times over his distinguished career, and we thank him for his service to this country.”

The resignation also leaves a politically sensitive investigation without one of its senior officials.

Quiñones had been overseeing an inquiry into allegations that former federal officials improperly targeted Trump through investigations connected to Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The investigation has faced internal disputes and has not produced charges establishing the alleged broader conspiracy.

Friday’s announcements followed the resignation of Harmeet Dhillon, who headed the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.

Dhillon, a longtime conservative attorney and Trump ally, announced Thursday that she was leaving after overseeing significant changes to the division’s enforcement priorities.

During her tenure, the division pursued cases involving religious liberty, antisemitism, diversity initiatives and other issues central to the administration’s civil rights agenda.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Dhillon revealed that she had attempted to resign approximately three weeks earlier.

However, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles reportedly asked her to remain in her position until after the midterm elections.

That detail suggests at least one of the departures had been planned before Republicans lost control of Congress.

The reasons for Eisenberg’s and Quiñones’ resignations have not been publicly established, and officials have not confirmed that either decision was connected to the election results.

Nevertheless, the timing has attracted attention as the Trump administration prepares for a Democratic-controlled Congress and the possibility of increased oversight of federal agencies.
