A Cincinnati teacher is facing mounting backlash after posting a video that critics say expressed disappointment President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt.
Corinne Baum, who teaches at The Children’s House, a private Montessori-style school, drew outrage after a clip circulated online, including via the Libs of TikTok account. In the video, she lamented, Man, there’s been a few creators on here saying that like Friday or yesterday could have been the day.
The remark was quickly read by many viewers as a grim wish for a different outcome, sparking furious responses from parents, activists and conservative commentators who demanded the school cut ties with her.
Online critics also resurfaced older TikTok posts from Baum, claiming they showed a pattern of political hostility and poor judgment. Some commenters urged others to file complaints with the state, and at least one response under the viral post included a link to report educator misconduct in Ohio.
As the blowback spread, The Children’s House appeared to run into website issues over the weekend, fueling the impression that the school was scrambling to manage a fast-moving crisis.
The controversy unfolded against the backdrop of heightened security concerns after the attempted attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where authorities say the suspect, Cole Tomas Allen, rushed past security and clashed with Secret Service agents, triggering a chaotic evacuation that included Donald Trump and other officials.
Baum’s comments have now put a harsh spotlight on the line teachers walk between personal expression and professional responsibility. Parents pushing for her firing argue that educators should not be publicly cheering, joking about or hinting at approval of political violence, regardless of party.
The case is also reigniting a broader debate over whether schools should hold staff to standards that extend beyond the classroom when social media posts go viral and reflect on the institution.
For now, the pressure campaign is only growing, and the core question remains whether The Children’s House will treat the video as protected speech or as conduct incompatible with working around children.
