Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney made a stunning direct appeal to President Donald Trump on Tuesday, asking him to consider pardoning the Massachusetts mother just days after her triple-murder trial ended in a mistrial.
Kevin Reddington bowed his head while addressing Trump during an appearance on “Good Morning America,” his first television interview since jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict in the closely watched case.
Asked what comes next for Clancy, Reddington turned directly to the president.
‘I’d like to say that perhaps Donald Trump, who felt compelled to speak out about this case.
‘Mr President, I hope that you would consider this young lady, the type of person she is, what she’s been through, and consider a pardon.’
The unusual request came after Trump publicly weighed in on the case Friday, shortly before Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial in Plymouth Superior Court.
‘It’s a shame. It’s a horrible tragedy. I see what’s happened and it looks like it’s a hung jury.
‘I think the judge has said it’s going to be a mistrial, so there’s going to be another trial. It’s a terrible situation. Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing.
‘Can’t be worse. But you’ll find out what the price to pay is. There’ll be a price. It’s going to be mental institution or jail or something, but I guess they’re going to go through another trial.’

There is one major legal obstacle to Reddington’s extraordinary request: Clancy is facing Massachusetts state charges, while a president’s constitutional pardon power extends only to federal offenses. Trump therefore does not have authority to pardon her on the charges currently pending in state court.

Reddington nevertheless used the interview to make an emotional case for his client, describing Clancy as ‘intelligent’ and ‘hardworking’ and speaking about the bond he developed with her during the lengthy trial.
‘I do feel a very strong bond with Lindsay because of the type of person she is. She’s such a wonderful, wonderful person.’
Reddington was also pressed over his fiery comments following the mistrial, including his declaration that he had ‘crushed’ the prosecution.

George Stephanopoulos asked whether he regretted making the remark.
He added: ‘I don’t regret saying it at all. I think that the defense was very strong and I think it went in very well.
‘I think I perhaps could have been a little more circumspect dealing with prosecutor, Tim Cruz, and instead of saying I crushed him, I could I have said I did a good job.’
Despite the courtroom fireworks, Reddington signaled that he would be willing to negotiate with Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz rather than put Clancy through a second trial.
‘I’m willing to listen to Tim Cruz. I’ve known Tim for 30 years. I hope, however, after this trial, that he would revisit that issue and we could work something out that will be acceptable for both sides,’ he added.
Reddington also claimed that, to his knowledge, 11 jurors favored finding Lindsay Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity, with one holdout preventing a unanimous verdict.
Clancy, 36, is accused of killing her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, inside the family’s Duxbury home in January 2023.
She has admitted strangling the children with exercise bands but pleaded not guilty to murder, with her defense arguing that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible for the killings.
Prosecutors rejected that argument and maintained that Clancy understood what she was doing and deliberately planned the killings.
After killing the children, Clancy attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window. She survived but was left paralyzed and now uses a wheelchair.
Jurors deliberated for more than 37 hours following more than five weeks of evidence before the case collapsed into a deadlock Friday.
Judge Sullivan ultimately declared a mistrial after the defense unsuccessfully fought to keep deliberations going and challenged the conduct of the lone holdout juror.
Clancy remains charged, and prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will pursue another trial, negotiate a resolution or take another course in the case.
Reddington’s appeal to Donald Trump adds another extraordinary twist to a case that has already attracted national attention, although any relief from the Massachusetts charges would have to come through the state’s legal system rather than a presidential pardon.
