Man Waving Palestine Flag Runs Onto Field During Yankees-Mets Game On 25th Anniversary Of 9/11

A spectator adorned in a Palestine flag stormed the field during the Mets-Yankees game in New York on Friday night, the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The incident occurred at 9:11 p.m. Eastern Time in the top of the seventh inning.

The individual entered from the left-field seats and ran toward center field. Stadium security and police officers pursued the person, who evaded them briefly before being tackled on the outfield grass and detained. Officials then escorted the individual from the field beyond the center-field wall.

Fans seated above the Mets’ bullpen threw beer cans toward the person as they were removed. The crowd booed, after which spectators erupted into loud chants of “USA.”

The individual has not been identified as of this report, nor have any details been released on how they entered the field. The person was described as kicking at security while being carried off, according to a report from the New York Post.

The game was played on the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks, and the evening began with memorial observances at Yankee Stadium. Before first pitch, current Yankees players laid a wreath at the 9/11 monument in Monument Park.

Honor guards from the NYPD, FDNY, and Port Authority Police Department presented the colors, and a large American flag was unfurled across the outfield. Opera tenor James Valenti sang the national anthem, followed by Lee Greenwood’s performance of “God Bless America.”

Members of the 2001 Yankees, including Derek Jeter, Joe Torre, Jorge Posada, Paul O’Neill, Tino Martinez, Scott Brosius, and Mariano Rivera, took part in the ceremonies. Brielle Saracini and Sean McGuire, both of whom lost a parent in the attacks, threw ceremonial first pitches on behalf of the children who lost a parent that day. Officials also recognized the NYPD, FDNY, Port Authority Police Department, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, and Tuesday’s Promise.
