Multiple People Dead After Mass Shooter Opens Fire At Idaho In-N-Out Restaurant

Three people were killed and several others were wounded when a gunman opened fire at a recently opened In-N-Out restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho. The restaurant, which is located in a busy shopping plaza that includes major retailers and a movie theater complex, had opened on July 24 as part of the company’s expansion into the state.

Officers from the Twin Falls Police Department, the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office, the Idaho State Police, and multiple other agencies responded to reports of an active shooter around 2:29 p.m. local time on Saturday. Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks addressed the incident during a news conference later that day.

“Today has been a very hard day here in Twin Falls, a tragic day. We initially responded to the scene of shots fired at the In-N-Out restaurant here in Twin Falls. Officers from the Twin Falls Police Department, the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office, the Idaho State Police along with multiple other agencies responded to the area. It was a very chaotic scene,” he said.

Hicks confirmed that fatalities were confirmed but did not provide the official tally during the press conference. As of Sunday morning, officials have confirmed three fatalities. It is unknown whether this tally includes the shooter.

“We also have a number of people being treated for injuries at our local hospital here. We have literally hundreds of people that were in some way, shape, or form in the area of this restaurant at the time that are being interviewed right now,” Hicks said during the press conference. He added that the shooter, who is deceased, is believed to have acted alone.

Twin Falls city public information officer Josh Palmer later confirmed that three people were killed and seven others were injured, with some of the injured in critical condition. Police located the body of the suspected gunman in an area near the restaurant.

Palmer further emphasized that it was not immediately clear whether the suspected gunman was included among the three reported fatalities. Names, ages, and other identifying details of the victims has not yet not been released as authorities continue efforts to notify next of kin

Witnesses provided accounts of the events. Lane Koehn, 34, said he was stopped at a traffic light near the restaurant when he observed a person carrying an AR-style rifle emerge from the drive-thru area. He further stated that a bystander appeared to engage the shooter with a handgun of his own.

Koehn then saw an In-N-Out employee in uniform dragging another uniformed individual, who had been shot in the chest, across the parking lot. Koehn, the employee, and the individual with the pistol remained with the injured person until paramedics arrived.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting local authorities with the investigation. Officials continue to interview witnesses and have requested that members of the public with information contact authorities.
