The U.S. General Services Administration announced Tuesday that it has identified more than $13 billion in suspected fraud involving federal contractors. The findings cover the period since March of this year and form part of the agency’s collaboration with the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud. The announcement describes the total as the largest suspected fraud identification in GSA history by both the dollar amount and the number of contractors involved.
GSA identified the suspected activity through analysis of governmentwide contracting data, public reporting, and information from inspector general enforcement efforts. The agency stated that these methods are expanding its capacity to detect and address waste, fraud, and abuse in federal procurement. GSA manages more than $126 billion in products and services through federal contracts and operates a central marketplace for businesses competing to supply the government.
“Let this serve as a warning to any bad actors thinking of stealing from the federal government: we will catch you, we will work with law enforcement to ensure your arrest, and we will do everything in our power to help recover every dollar you stole,” GSA Administrator Edward C. Forst said in an accompanying statement.
“GSA operates the leading marketplace for federal procurement, where businesses compete to serve and supply the federal government. When fraudsters rig that system by falsifying records or misrepresenting themselves, they steal not just from taxpayers, but also from the law-abiding contractors that support our federal agency partners as they carry out President Trump’s agenda,” he added. “Anyone who lies their way into receiving taxpayer dollars is putting their business, their reputation, and their freedom at risk. GSA is fully committed to working with Vice President Vance’s task force to root out fraud and protect the integrity of federal procurement.”
The review is led by GSA’s Office of Government-wide Policy. It examines COVID-19 spending, integrity in the Small Business Administration’s 8(a) program, contractor eligibility, bid rigging, cybersecurity false claims, bribery, and other contractor-integrity risks. Suspected cases are being referred to the GSA Office of the Inspector General or the Department of Justice for further investigation.

The White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud is chaired by Vice President JD Vance and was established by executive order this past March. GSA joined the task force earlier in 2026 to support identification of issues across government contracting programs.
Related reporting indicated that the $13 billion figure was added to the White House’s fraud.gov tracking site on the day of the announcement. Separate data on the site show that, since January 2025, GSA has prevented $202.2 million in fraud through administrative actions and recovered $29.5 million through enforcement actions.
Earlier in the year, the task force and GSA had flagged approximately $6.3 billion in government contracts directed to potentially fraudulent businesses. Coverage of the latest announcement noted that some identified matters involved the use of smaller businesses as conduits to obtain contracts for which the primary firms were not eligible. The $13 billion total represents suspected activity identified through the ongoing review rather than amounts already recovered or adjudicated.
