NEW: 13 Injured After Crash At Newark Airport

Thirteen people were injured early Monday when an employee shuttle bus slammed into a concrete barrier at Newark Liberty International Airport, leaving the front of the vehicle badly mangled.

The crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. on the Terminal B Departures Level 3 roadway, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Three people suffered serious injuries and 10 others sustained minor injuries, according to local reports. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

All 13 victims were taken to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

Video from the scene showed the shuttle bus pressed against a concrete barrier with extensive damage to its front end. The windshield and passenger-side door were shattered, with debris scattered across the roadway.

Police tape surrounded the wreckage as first responders worked at the scene.

The impact forced authorities to temporarily close the Terminal B departures roadway while emergency crews cleared debris and investigators examined the crash site.

Passengers heading to Terminal B were temporarily directed to use Level 2 for drop-offs because of the police response.

The damaged bus was eventually towed away and the Level 3 roadway later reopened.

The vehicle was being used as an employee shuttle when the crash occurred.

Authorities have not yet said what caused the driver to strike the concrete barrier.

The Port Authority Police Department is investigating the wreck.

The early-morning crash caused a significant emergency response at one of the busiest airports in the New York metropolitan area, though there was no immediate indication that air traffic was affected.

Officials have not released the identities of those injured or provided additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing.
